Right Time...Wrong Seed
by Terry Waller
You know, if you have shared the Gospel with anyone you may have heard what we call excuses. However, I would like us to take a look at this for a moment and realize that our non-Christian friends do raise some valid and important questions. Yet too often in our zealousness to see them come into a relationship with Jesus Christ we often come across pushy and sometimes well...arrogant. We want to give them answers to questions they are not asking. This is often interpreted by a non-Christian as such, and the results are often negative and may in fact even drive them further away from God. Please, I am not trying to tell you not to share you faith as the Spirit enables you. But in my years of experience I have often seen people who are either inept, inexperienced, or unprepared to share their faith effectively.
Perhaps you yourself have seen or heard from a well-meaning person that tells you “you need to get right with God.” You feel like this person has got to be kidding right…cause they are the ones who are sitting there passing judgment and gossiping about their neighbor. It is extremely arrogant when we as born again Christian people tell others something like this, when our own lifestyle represents an unwillingness to be conformed into His likeness. We become a modern day Sadducees, and in some cases, a Pharisee! So if you are offended by this statement, then may I suggest you examine your heart and ask the Holy Spirit to show you areas where you may grow and allow Him to teach you the ways of the wise.
God has promised to Himself that His Word will not return to Him void. Therefore, you may be a simple seed planter, but you have a very vital role in building His Kingdom and rescuing the perishing. “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” Matthew 9:37 We have often heard this, but have we really listened to the Spirit of this verse? The harvest is plentiful it says, yet in our churches today we seem content with allowing the preacher and paid staff members to do the most vital role of all, to harvest the field. I believe in my heart the Lord has prepared me to share this with you so that you can partner with your Pastor and other Christians to reap an abundant harvest in due season. You must learn to utilize the proper tools and prepare yourselves in advance so that when the time comes you are ready to reap. Know this; there can be no harvest without the sowing of seed.
In America I believe there has been plenty of seed thrown about the soil, yet it appears that the seed lot has been mixed. And I ask the question, "Can wheat grow with corn stalks?”. You see, the church in all its wonders and its beauty has allowed itself to be inundated with the philosophy of men. And the Gospel has been either complicated by adding a bunch of extra things, or diluted by subtracting from the truth. When will the Church kneel before a Holy God and admit its own mistakes? When will we show mercy to the ones less fortunate than ourselves? When will we return to the desire of Our Lord and be united under His banner? When will the clans of denominational preferences realize that the King has always desired unity among His people? When will we get rid of the hollow and deceptive ways of materialism, secularism, and relativism and return to the Truth of God’s Word? We have become reliant on experts and professionals to do the work of the ministry and have failed in many cases to equip the people with skills, abilities, and resources to enable them to reap a harvest. And more importantly, we have failed to ask the Lord of the Harvest to raise these workers up.
I appeal to you today to turn from the ways of the world, and turn to the ways of our God and prepare yourself to reap the harvest He is preparing. Expect the blessing of multiplication.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." ~Deuteronomy 31:6
